The journey begins
Two graduates from IIT Bombay, with a dream of becoming an entrepreneur, started their businesses individually. One of them was Prabhkiran Singh who started a lassi store outside the college by the name of ‘Khadke gLASSI’. Another one was Siddharth Munot who was a member of an education startup. But both of them did not get good results. So, they thought of doing something different.
They made a plan and started with the T-shirt printing business. Together they thought that it will be a great idea if they use the trending tag lines and quotes to make it different. It made the land to an idea of printing quirky T-shirts that will be popular among the college students. Both of them targeted the college students to sell their t-shirts.
After receiving good responses from students, they worked on making it online. The idea plotting gets over by 2010 and after that, they begin searching for a relevant domain. Finally, after a lot of searches, they came up with a decision of a very different and unique domain “bewakoof.com”.
Acquiring the domain was not the biggest task, the main idea was to get trending taglines and quotes that can be printed on the T-shirts. They started by taking ideas from the college students, hostel life, dialogues from movies, and many more.
Finally, the website launched in 2012 by the name of “Bewakoof”. The name, itself was very unique and hence it became very popular among the students and youngsters. The startup was based in Mumbai.
